Auto accident with Prince George's County fire truck injures two

There is a seemingly infinite variety of the types of motor vehicle accidents in Prince George's County. Each auto accident must be investigated to determine what happened to cause the accident and who was at fault. Operating a vehicle is more than knowing how to drive. It also involves being aware of your surroundings while traveling on the roadway. Sometimes that means listening for sirens or seeing warning lights on the tops of police vehicles, indicating an emergency call is in progress. When a fire truck or other emergency vehicle responds to an alarm, drivers know they should move out of the way and allow the emergency vehicle to pass.

On October 19 about 8:00 a.m., an auto accident occurred in Lanham at the 85th Avenue intersection. According to initial reports, a car merging onto the roadway struck a Prince George's County fire truck. There was no immediate indication that the fire truck was responding to a fire call or had its emergency lights on at the time of the collision. The car then struck two other vehicles while it continued across the intersection. Two people involved in the accident were sent to area hospitals. The driver of the fire truck was uninjured but sent to the hospital as a precaution.

Damage to the fire truck appeared to be minimal, though the extent of damage to the three other cars was not released. Further, no information was available as to whether or not police issued any citations in connection with the incident. The driver of the fire truck will be required to undergo post crash testing, as is standard operating procedure in auto accidents involving a county fire truck.

Victims injured in the crash are now left with unexpected medical bills as well as any lost wages. Losses such as these can be recovered from the driver responsible for the accident.
