Motorcyclists take note: Maryland is great at injury prevention

We all know that driving on the road can be dangerous, especially if the vehicle is a motorcycle. Since motorcycles do not provide the same level of protection that a car can, motorcycle accidents can often result in serious injuries. However, there is some good news for Maryland motorcyclists. A recent study performed by the Trust for American's Health shows that Maryland, among other states such as California and New Jersey, has one of the lowest rates of fatalities per avoidable accidents in the country.

The study aimed to discover if policies had been enacted by states to help prevent 10 relatively common types of injuries such as car accidents, violence and concussions. Once this data was collected, the study was then able to compare the states with one another to see if a trend developed between policies and injury prevention.

According to the Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy Director, most states only had policies aimed at less than half of the 10 common types of injuries. Maryland, on the other hand, has specific policies for eight. On the whole, states with fewer policies tended to have higher fatality rates than states with more policies. These conclusions reinforce the idea that having laws in place to protect citizens can save lives.

Unfortunately, there are always circumstances that could lead to an accident. Careless or distracted drivers can make mistakes and cause serious injuries to motorcyclists. For this reason it is always important to know your legal rights and be particularly careful while operating a motorcycle. A personal injury attorney can help give advice to a person who is injured due to the negligence of another motorist.
