Maryland man injured in motorcycle accident

A 50-year-old Maryland man received non-life threatening injuries as the result of a motor vehicle accident caused by another driver. The two vehicle accident occurred at 4:25pm on Del. 24, delaying traffic for nearly an hour.

The motorcyclist was heading south on Del. 24 while the other vehicle was driving eastward on Hollymount. The car attempted to take a left turn onto Del. 24, but was unaware of the motorcyclist. The car pulled into the path of the motorcyclist, causing him to crash into the vehicle. The impact threw the rider from his motorcycle and into the road.

There were no details as to whether or not the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet or full protective gear, but it is known that he suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment. None of the three individuals in the car were injured.

Police officials cited the driver of the car with "inattentive driving." While the specific details of what caused this inattention are unknown, common causes of distracted driving include interactions with other passengers in the vehicle, use of cell phones or other handheld devices, driving impaired by drugs or alcohol or even lack of sleep. It is also unknown if the driver of the motorcycle intends to pursue any of his legal options.

Should the motorcyclists choose to pursue a legal path, there are a variety of possible outcomes. Should his case be successful, he could receive compensation for pain and suffering, or even the medical bills incurred as a result of the other drivers negligence.
