Three car crash on Md. 140 leaves one dead

It is likely that anyone who drives understands that potentially dangerous outcomes of an auto accident can include serious injury or even death. Every year, accidents occur that only reinforce this understanding further. For example, a recent car accident near Finksburg, Maryland has left one person dead.

According to a press release from the Maryland State Police, the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 2nd at approximately 2 p.m., involved three vehicles. The accident occurred when a car travelling westbound on Md. 140 crossed the median and struck another vehicle in the eastbound lane. The car then travelled further along the road and collided with a pick-up truck, which was also heading eastbound.

Each vehicle had one driver and no passengers, and all three drivers were transported to local hospitals in order to receive treatment for their injuries. Two of these individuals were transported by helicopter. One of them, the driver of the pick-up truck, later passed away.

The other two individuals currently remain in hospital care in serious and critical condition. The specific details regarding their injuries are not known.

Witnesses indicate that the driver, who was allegedly responsible for the multi-vehicle accident, appeared to be distracted. Authorities do not believe that the driver's distraction was due to a medical emergency. More details have yet to be released as the Maryland State Police crash team continues to investigate.

While the details regarding what caused the distraction are currently unknown, there are multiple common causes of distracted driving ranging from simple momentary carelessness to negligent behavior such as driving while texting, talking on the phone or while under the influence of intoxicants such as alcohol or drugs.

If it can be proven that the accident was caused by the negligent behavior of the distracted driver, those who are injured or who have lost family members as a result of the accident may be entitled to bring a legal action against the responsible party in order to receive financial compensation.
