Construction worker buried under rubble from blast

An out-of-state construction worker met a terrible end this week when routine rock blasting went awry, resulting in the worker being buried and subsequently crushed under literally tons of rubble and debris. Because the accident happened just two days ago, the investigation into the cause of this tragic happening is still underway. This means that there is little that is presently known by way of details. The only information given on the victim killed in this fatal construction accident is that he was 61-years-old.

At 61 years old, this man likely had a family, possibly even grandchildren. That family, along with friends and the community are all likely devastated at this loss. When a family losses a loved one under these circumstances, there is recourse available.

The outcome of the investigation will be crucial to determine not only what went wrong, but also any other avenues for compensation the family of this victim can pursue in addition to coverage under workers' compensation in an attempt to hold those responsible accountable. Under workers' compensation, a family of a worker killed on the job in a fatal accident in Maryland can receive death benefits to supplement the lost wages and provide assistance for funeral and burial expenses.

However, depending on the circumstances of the accident, there could be additional compensation available. If a piece of machinery malfunctioned, leading to the death, there could be grounds for a product liability claim. Additionally, if a third party caused the accident, there could be grounds for a wrongful death claim. Understanding these variables can be confusing, particularly when a family is trying to work through the grief of losing a loved one. Contacting an experienced legal attorney can assist a grieving family in pursuing the maximum amount of compensation following a fatal workplace accident.
