Man injured on the job after metal pipe hit his head

When multiple people are working around dangerous equipment on a regular basis, there are bound to be mishaps from time to time. Safety equipment can help reduce the damage that many of these incidents can cause, but they can only go so far in preventing occasionally serious injuries from occurring. Sometimes, an accident is simply unavoidable and a worker will be injured on the job regardless of how many precautions they opted to take.

Just outside Maryland, a construction worker suffered a head injury when a large metal pipe dropped onto him from an unspecified distance. The accident happened just after 10:30 at night on a construction site for a mall under renovation. The 56-year-old man was apparently still conscious following the incident when police arrived.

Though police stated he was still aware of his surroundings, ambulances were notified, and the man was indeed hospitalized as a result of the incident. The seriousness of his injuries has yet to be revealed. It is not known what caused the pipe to fall or if the man was wearing a helmet of any kind that may have minimized the damage. Whether or not the investigation is still ongoing was also not indicated in the report.

In Maryland, construction workers are usually provided with workers' compensation in the event of an accident. However, occasionally an insurance provider will attempt to deny coverage or complicate matters in some other way. Acting quickly after being injured on the job is a course of action that will improve one's odds of being provided adequate financial compensation and job security.
