Maryland car accident leaves an elderly couple dead, two injured

Driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding can lead to terrible consequences, even death. Just that kind of event happened recently, on a Laurel, Maryland highway. A Sparks, Maryland man whom police believe was driving drunk and fast, has been charged with driving under the influence, along with a second driver, in a tragic three-car crash.

The accident occurred 44 miles north of Laurel, Maryland in Sparks when a northbound Hyundai Sonata crossed the median and hit a Hyundai Tucson, returned to its original lane and crashed into a Dodge Dart. The third driver, an 85-year-old man, and his 84-year-old wife died at the scene. A 79-year-old additional female passenger of the Tucson was transported to a Baltimore Shock Trauma hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

According to reports, Baltimore County police determined that the Sonata driver, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was at fault and he was charged with a DUI. Police also stated they are continuing to investigate the crash because they believe that speed could have contributed to the accident.

Family and friends of the deceased, who must deal with this terrible and sudden loss, are not alone. This year so far, 98 people have died from alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents in Maryland. As the year ends, the statistic is approaching the 138 fatalities recorded last year.

Aside from pain and suffering, financial issues must be addressed. Victims and their families must cover medical costs and funeral expenses. Accident victims and relatives should seek the advice of a legal professional to help sort out all legal and financial issues associated with motor vehicle accidents.
