Victim of industrial accident receives prosthetic aid

If you're injured at work, you may have options to help you get back on your feet. Workers' compensation, along with disability and a few other options, can provide you with an income and medical aid that you could need throughout this difficult time of your life. If you've been involved in an industrial accident, you might worry about what's going to happen to you in the future. In this case, one man is proving that he can get around after losing his leg from the knee down; he now uses a helpful prosthetic.

Readers in Maryland might be concerned about their workers' compensation not covering things like medical aids or prosthetics, but it should if your injury is work-related. There is no question that these items can help you, and this man is now using a top-of-the-line prosthetic that has only been on the market for around six months, according to the report from Nov. 13. The man allegedly was hurt at work in 2011 when he had a large piece of steel fall over and catch his leg above the angle. The man was transported via ambulance until a helicopter could reach him, then he was flown to Johns Hopkins University Medical Hospital for treatment. Back in 2011, this device wasn't yet available, so he went through physical therapy to learn how to use a passive prosthetic. With the aid of this new device, he says it is more similar to walking like normal.

Injuries that happen at work like this one shouldn't stop you from living your life. This man has been able to have a great prosthetic and now is using some of the newest technology available. However, prosthetics and other medical treatments can be expensive. If you or a loved one has been injured in a construction accident and your workers' compensation claim was denied, an attorney may be able to help you by filing an appeal.
