Surgical errors allegedly lead patient to lose function of foot

People in Maryland may be reluctant to undergo surgery due to the complications that may result, but the desire to live motivates them to go through it while putting their complete trust in the surgeon. Unfortunately, doctors sometimes make surgical errors that end up reducing a patient's quality of life. One man in an out-of-state case has filed a lawsuit after he claimed that one of his feet stopped functioning after he went through a surgery.

The man said he had an operation done to address an aneurysm of the aorta. He said the doctor told him that the surgery would be straightforward and failed to talk about any surgical risks associated with the surgery or get the patient's informed consent prior to completing the procedure. The patient said the surgery actually ended up taking more than nine hours due to multiple complications.

The man said the complication-filled procedure has caused him to suffer major physical complications as well as permanently disabling injuries. These include damage to the nerve, which has caused him to lose function in the right foot. He said he also suffered multiple bed sores, major blood loss, kidney failure, deep vein thrombosis and respiratory failure. He claimed that all of these complications caused him to stay in the hospital for an extended period of time.

The man has accused the doctor of engaging in medical malpractice. He is seeking damages for mental suffering, pain and suffering, loss of the enjoyment of life, permanent disability and medical costs. Any person in Maryland who has been harmed as a result of surgical errors has the right to try to hold the allegedly negligent doctor accountable in civil court.
