Failure to diagnose birth injuries can result in lifelong issues

A parent's love for his or her child is a love that most say has no equal. Childbirth can be one of the most emotional and stressful times for the majority of parents. Anytime that birth injuries occur, a parent can become completely emotionally devastated. A recent incident in a neighboring state to Maryland resulted in a father filing a lawsuit against two physicians.

The father claims that the physicians did not properly diagnose his son's condition in a timely manner. The child's pediatricians supposedly failed to recognize his undescended testicles. Therefore, he was not given the proper treatment for this unfortunate condition.

The lawsuit states that the child is now at a tremendously increased risk for multiple issues, including the potential lack of fertility, testicular cancer and development problems related to hormones. Allegedly, he was given an ultrasound that showed the issue with his testicles. A surgical procedure eventually had to be performed in an attempt to correct the problem.

Maryland residents should be able to recognize from this story that some birth injuries have the potential to affect an individual for the remainder of his or her life. Whenever this type of injury was caused by the negligence of a doctor or any other medical staff member, the child's parent or guardian may reserve the right to file a medical malpractice claim. While much of the damage done may not ever be able to be repaired, compensation gained from a successful claim could go a long way toward easing much of a victim's family's pain and suffering.
