Maryland road worker killed in an Interstate 95 accident

An Interstate 95 accident left one construction worker dead last week on Thursday. According to Maryland State Police, the incident caused a major shutdown of Interstate 95 in Prince George's County, not far from Route 200.

The accident, which happened at approximately 1:30 a.m., involved a northbound tractor-trailer that entered a work zone. The tractor-trailer collided with two construction work trucks, one after the other.

The extreme force of the collision caused the second work truck to hit a 62-year-old man who had been working at the site. Unfortunately, the man suffered catastrophic injuries from the crash and he did not survive. The 43-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was injured and required hospital care.

Aside from the fatality and the three trucks that were involved in this accident, Maryland State Police have not provided any information regarding the cause of the crash. However, with further investigations it is likely that more details will be revealed.

The collision caused the part of I-95 to be shutdown for multiple hours. By 6 a.m., one lane of traffic was being routed around the crash site along the shoulder of the interstate. By 8:50 a.m., authorities announced that all lanes of traffic had been reopened, including the Route 200 on-ramp.

When a Maryland worker suffers a fatal on the job injury, his or her immediate family members may be able to seek various workers' compensation benefits, including end of life expenses to cover funerary costs and income replacement to help keep the family financially afloat after losing a major contributor to their income.
