What to do once your SSDI application has been denied?

A number of people in Maryland and across the country apply for Social Security Disability benefits as a way to help them make ends meet when they are unable to work. In order to be eligible for SSDI benefits, people must meet certain criteria that is set in place by the Social Security Administration. If applicants do not meet this criteria, their application for benefits may be denied. In some cases, however, an application could be denied due to an oversight, and may need further evaluation so that the right decision is made. At McGowan & Cecil LLC, we know that applying for SSDI benefits can be difficult, and that people are able to appeal the SSA’s decision if their application is denied.

There are several ways that you can appeal your SSDI application denial. Whether your request for benefits was denied because of a medical issue or if you were missing supporting documents or written statements that are required in order to apply, you can appeal the decision online. Before you begin the process, make sure that you have all of the documents necessary to support your case, as well as the original letter saying that your application was denied. You may need information regarding the medications you are prescribed, doctors you are currently seeing and any medical treatments that you have had. You may also need letters confirming that your medical state infringes on your ability to work.
