Marylander dies in accident with pickup truck

A Mount Airy, Maryland man died in an auto accident involving four different vehicles on Wednesday in Codorus Township, Pennsylvania. According to state police officials, the crash occurred on Route 216 near Two Springs Farm Lane at approximately 5:30 pm.

While the specific causes of the accident have not yet been released, some details are known. The pickup truck that initially caused the accident was travelling eastbound on Route 216, while the Ford Focus driven by the Marylander was heading westbound. The truck, for unknown reasons, crossed over the double yellow dividing line into the westbound lane of Route 216, where it struck the Ford Focus. It was then that a westbound box truck slammed into the already stopped Ford Focus. Next, another car, a westbound station wagon, struck the pickup truck, which had come to a stop in the middle of the roadway.

The Marylander was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries about an hour following the accident. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma resulting from the crash.

Law enforcement authorities are still investigating the scene and attempting to uncover the reasons behind the crash. While there are several common causes of car accident, they suspect that wet roadways may have played a role in the accident. Furthermore, they also suspect speed played a role in the accident, which may constitute negligent driving.

If the truck driver was driving in a negligent manner, the family of the deceased may find some value in bringing the driver to court over their loved one's wrongful death. If successful, the family may be able to recover a financial benefit that helps cover the costs of lost wages, funeral costs, as well as compensation for their emotional pain and suffering.
