Car-motorcycle crash kills one Maryland resident, injures two

Emergency responders immediately took action after a motor vehicle accident near Laurel, Maryland. Reportedly, a collision between a car and motorcycle recently occurred on Route 18. The crash sent three people to the hospital. Unfortunately, the motorcycle's passenger died in the accident.

According to sources, a car was heading west on Route 18 when it suddenly crossed the median and struck a motorcycle head-on. The motorcycle was traveling east on the same road at the time. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to catch fire. Reports stated that two people were on the motorcycle. Both of them were rushed to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center while the driver of the car was transported to Queen Anne's County Emergency Center. However, one of the motorcycle riders later died. Furthermore, the motor vehicle accident is still under investigation.

More people nowadays prefer riding a motorcycle because it is more flexible in traffic and is more cost-effective. However, riding a motorcycle on Maryland roads may come with certain risks. In motor vehicle crashes, motorcycle riders are more likely to be injured or killed than passengers of closed vehicles.

However, motor vehicle crashes involving motorcycles can be prevented if motorists exercise caution behind the wheel. Drivers who are cautious are more inclined to notice motorcycle riders sooner. In contrast, two-thirds of motor vehicle accidents involving motorcycles occur because the driver violates the rider's right of way, resulting in injuries and fatalities.

In such cases, the victim of a motorcycle accident may exercise his or her legal right to pursue compensation, particularly if a driver's negligence plays a role in the crash. Through a personal injury lawsuit, the injured party may recover compensation for damages caused by the crash. If the accident results in death, the victim's surviving family may claim compensation through a wrongful death lawsuit.
