One of the most nerve-racking experiences a person in Maryland may have is undergoing surgery. The patient may be concerned about whether or not the surgery will be effective as well as if any complications will occur during or after the operation as a result of a surgeon error. In one out-of-state case, an individual has filed a lawsuit against a health center after suffering serious injuries following a surgical procedure.
In this recent case, a patient said she had to undergo a hysterectomy. During the procedure, sutures were placed in her. However, she said that when she went for her follow-up exam, she was told that the sutures placed in her fatty tissue surrounding her bowels had caused a severe infection.
According to the woman’s complaint, the woman’s bowels as well as her intestines and bladder ended up dropping as a result of the infection. The patient has therefore sued for medical malpractice. The woman is seeking damages totaling more than $250,000, plus costs.
People in Maryland are willing to undergo surgery in order to improve their physical conditions; unfortunately, in some instances, a person’s health may actually become worse due to a surgeon error. If a surgeon has failed to exercise a reasonable degree of care, the patient who was harmed as a result has the right to sue for compensatory damages. A case involving medical malpractice may be successfully fought if liability is established to the court’s satisfaction.
