One recent motor vehicle accident in Prince George’s County appears to be something more sinister–a deliberate act. According to a local news report, the driver of a school bus purposely crashed the bus into a building at her workplace. Three people were injured in the motor vehicle crash, although all were reportedly in good condition.
The woman had reportedly been working as a bus driver since 1998 with no history of problems at work. However, recently she was involved in an ongoing altercation with a coworker, whom she accused of harassment. She even went to court to stop the alleged harassment, but a judge dismissed her case.
That may have contributed to her state of mind when she drove the bus into a lounge area just before 6 a.m. a few weeks ago. Three of her coworkers were inside at the time and had to be taken to an area hospital. She has since been arrested by Prince George’s County police and she has also been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Authorities are continuing to conduct an investigation, but the three who were injured may consider the possibility of a lawsuit as they recover from injuries they sustained in the motor vehicle crash. When victims are injured through no fault of their own, as appears to be the case here, they may deserve compensation for their injuries. Through a personal injury lawsuit, they may be able to collect compensatory damages not only for their medical expenses but also for any lost wages. As the accident happened at work, they may also consider applying for workers’ compensation benefits.
